Seebold Earns First ChampBoat Win of the Year |
|
For the third time in his illustrious career, Tim Seebold won the Bay City River Roar in front of thousands of fans in Bay City, Mich. Driving his Dobson Industrial-sponsored boat, Seebold led from start to finish to earn his first victory of the year in the third round of the 2009 F1-ChampBoat Series.
The Osage Beach, Mo., driver bested Chris Fairchild, who charged up from starting eighth off the dock to finish less than a second behind Seebold in the 50-lap race on the Saginaw River.
“Bay City is always a real challenge and winning for the third time in five years is something special,” said Seebold, who tied his brother, Michael, atop the all-time win list in the 25-year history of ChampBoat racing with 28 victories. “We have moved up to fourth in the drivers championship and still have a chance to take our sixth title before the season closes out.”
Finishing third in a close battle with four-time series champion Terry Rinker was Shaun Torrente. The winner of the season’s first two races, Torrente continues to lead the points standings although Rinker is just 24 points behind.

Donzi Marine, Pro-Line Sold to Private Investors |
|
American Marine Holdings, which builds Donzi Marine and Pro-Line boats, was sold Wednesday to a group of private investors, and its mercurial chief executive officer has left the company.
CEO Lee Kimmel, who ran the Sarasota, Fla., company for 13 years, sold his stake to the new investors, said Josh Stickles, vice president of marketing for Donzi. Remaining senior management is expected to stay in place.
Rumors had circulated for the several months that the V-bottom and center-console builder was for sale. The marine company has been battered by the sharp recession and a tight credit market. The name of the investors or the sale price was not disclosed.

Aqua-Mania G3 Raises the Bar in Bimini Race |
|
Shortly after noon on Friday, June 12, the parameters of true offshore racing were redefined during the second annual Bimini Memorial Ocean Race. In a record-shattering 43 minutes and 43 seconds, the sleek jet black and unforgettable orange, turbine-powered Aqua-Mania G3 boat screamed past the Sunny Isles Beach, Fla., start-finish line, slashed through the Gulf Stream swells and cruised back from the Bahamian island of Bimini with ease.
A competitive professional racer and passionate poker runner, owner Rick Merola handled the throttles in his 50-foot Mystic catamaran, and welcomed Mystic Powerboats founder John Cosker in the driver’s seat for the 106-mile endurance race. The team averaged more than 145 mph en route to breaking last year’s record of 1 hour, 44 seconds set by Gino Gargiulo and Larry Goldman in the Mercedes MTI.
