‘Deadliest Catch’ Star Ventures into New Territory PDF  | Print |  E-mail

Captain Keith Colburn, who runs the famed Wizard fishing vessel on the television show “Deadliest Catch,” is going to give offshore racing a try.

keithwebb.jpgSuper Boat International (SBI) announced Monday that Colburn is slated to campaign a Wizard Seafoods Super Boat to promote his culinary and fishing ventures. Colburn appeared at SBI events in Sarasota, Fla., and New York this season, where he signed autographs and took pictures with fans of the Discovery Channel TV show.

“This opportunity to put Wizard Seafoods on the side of the fastest boats in the world is great,” Colburn said in a press release. “These Super Boats are just awesome. I’m really looking forward to being a part of the Super Boat International race circuit this season."

How will Colburn be able to run a fishing vessel in the freezing Bering Straits and an offshore boat in sunny Florida is a matter of timing. The Alaskan king crab fishing season opens much earlier than the offshore season, he said. SBI is set to start its season April 16-18 in Miami.

Colburn also serves as the spokesman for the United States Coast Guard’s “Boat Responsibly,” initiative, where he appeared in a series of public service announcements and made personal appearances.

The popular television show follows several fishing vessels out of Alaska and their adventures to catch crab out on the grueling ocean. It’s slated to begin its sixth season in spring 2010.
