Offshore Racing Series Join Forces For 2010 PDF  | Print |  E-mail

sbifrontIn what could be a step in the right direction for offshore racing, Offshore Super Series (OSS) announced an agreement with Super Boat International (SBI) to combine some of their upcoming race venues this season.

Both organizations agreed to welcome registered members of SBI or OSS to race at either organization’s events by paying only the entry fee for that race. Teams won’t have to pay equipment and membership fees to the other association. SBI teams will join the OSS fleet at its first race of the year in Biloxi, Miss., (May 20-23) for Smokin’ the Sound, while OSS racers will be joining SBI at the following events: the Suncoast Grand Prix in Sarasota, Fla. (July 2-4), the Michigan City (Ind.) Grand Prix (Aug. 6-8) and the Clearwater (Fla.) SBI Nationals (Oct. 1-3).

“I would like to extend special thanks to OSS founding member, Billy Mauff of WHM Motorsports, and SBI President John Carbonell for their dedicated efforts and forward thinking to make this agreement a reality,” said Michael Mares, chairman of the OSS Board. “Race producers, racers and fans are looking for hope and stability in their sport, and I think this is a step in the right direction, especially during these uncertain economic times.”

All four of the combined events will be points races for both OSS and SBI classes. And although the agreement is between SBI and OSS, both organizations are extending an invitation to members of Offshore Performance Association (OPA) and Pacific Offshore Powerboat Racing Association (POPRA) to participate in this concept at all SBI and OSS sanctioned events.
