In an accident during the opening race of the Dubai Grand Prix—the final round of the Class 1 World Powerboat Championship—Victory 1 teammates Mohammad Al Mehairi and Jean-Marc Sanchez died in a high-speed crash on Dec. 11, officials said.
Heading into the event, Victory 1 was second in the overall points standings behind another Victory Team boat, Fazza 3. As a mark of respect to both racers and their families, the organizers cancelled the next day’s race and all event activities.
